25 auto anything good to say?
friend came over today and we did a bit of shooting he brought a 25 semi auto pistol old made in germany I was fairly unimpressed not much more power than a 22lr and the ammo is 10 times the price.Im no big gun enthusiast and was wondering if there was any reason that this ammo/gun
was still popular which i assume it was cause I purchased the ammo at a corner store which only carries a small supply of common ammo. |
Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
I think .25 is LESS powerful than .22.
That said, I have a cheap .25 pistol, and it is fun to shoot. Not for self defense, though. |
Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
You state the flaws perfectly.

Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
In their day they were "THE" cheapo handgun. Very weak and most of them are poorly made.
If you need a small piece you might try a .380 using +P ammo. While a .380 is nothing to brag about it beats the hell out of a .25 |
Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
European loadings are better than American loads, still not too amazing. I like .22mag much better, it'll really tear the monkey out of something.
The chief idea behind the .25 was that it was nearly rimless so it'd feed more reliably and it was centerfire so the ammo would fire more reliably. It had a niche is super tiny European autoloaders like the Baby Browning and CZ Duo and it'll kill you dead as crap with a well placed shot at contact distance. This made them handy as holdout pieces or for the guy who wanted a weapon just in case but not so bad that he wanted it to be at all a burden in size, weight or concealability. It served nearly the same function that pepperspray now serves, except it was lethal. Now that we can't get new, cool itty bitty Euro autoloaders anymore it seems kind of pointless. An NAA Black Widow in .22mag is more fearsome. |

Well, in all fairness, if you have nothing else, better than a sharp stick in the eye! Maybe:wink:

I would rather have a knife.

Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
It's the "girl gun"! Back in the day, whenever I or my female friends went gun shopping, the clerks always, without fail, tried to sell us .25s, usually cheap, stupid-looking ones, with pink plastic grips and such. Ugh! Probably figured an unsuspecting female was the only sort of person they could unload the things on. @$#%!^&# used to try to convince us we weren't "stong enough" to fire anything else! Lol! Can't tell you how many female friends I had whose fathers bought them a .25 as their first gun. Thankfully, my father had more sense.

Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
we were shooting an old worn out saddle one day. the .22lr penetrated the leather below the surface, most of the .25 bullets only imbeded part way and could be picked out of the leater with a pocket knife. the .22lr would make it a good 2-3 inches into the padding. the .44mag blew big holes out the other side. :D
then my buddy set up his 1919a4 and we turned it into swiss cheese. edit to add: the .22 was fired from a rifle, so it had an advantage. |
Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
I have a "Raven Arms" 25acp, very cheap and very reliable, upgraded to 38 spl when I had more money.

Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
If someone is a little annoyed at you, shoot them with a .25...
Then they'll be really pi$$ed off!!! I've seen .25 handgun/load combinations that would not penetrate a decent winter coat. What's the point of carrying something like that? |
Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
My sister's a paramedic. One day she picked up a young guy, probably a gang member, who had taken it in the gut almost point blank with a .357. He was howling in pain and fear and kept saying how he'd been shot three times before before, and it hadn't hurt like this, and how getting shot wasn't supposed to hurt like this and that he hadn't even gone to the hospital the last times he'd been shot! He was terribly surprised to be dying from a gunshot wound. My sister asked him if the tiny scars on his arms were from the other gunshots. Yes. The previous gun wounds had obviously been caused by a .25 or a .22, probably a .25, given that he didn't go to the hospital. Apparently, the kid didn't understand the difference between getting shot with a .25 and getting it point black with a .357.
Sis and her husband, also a paramedic, have both said that they've run into a number of cases like that. Stupid young kids who have been shooting at each other with cheap .25s, treating it almost like a game, who are then are utterly shocked to be suddenly badly wounded/dying or to find they've killed someone after the players switched to a .357 or a 9 mm. |
Re: 25 auto anything good to say?
.25 fits in the boot nicely. Most times your not going to be using it. for a light weight gun there nice if you know you have a good one.

My intertec is great. Better than the ravens and jenning that are out there. Beretta makes one. You can't knock them too much except for price.
